Thanks for commenting, I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying the game.
I’ve heard that Eternal Starlight has undergone significant updates and improvements over the two years since it launched. From your comments it seems that there have been some really great changes made.
That said, the review displayed here was accurate to my experience when the game launched. It may be that over time there have been significant improvements made but this review won’t cover any of those later additions.
Unfortunately it’s just not practical to go back into every review each time a game is updated.
I appreciate you’re taking the time to highlight the state of the game 2 years on from the review. I genuinely hope that the game is fantastic in its current state and hopefully people reading this review now will see your comment and get a sense of the changes that have been made since I played it last.

The way you move the ships, the sound effects, the upgrades, the alliances you can forge and I must add that if you truly get so physically sick from pressing the thumbstick a few times for a full rotation, then you are either making drama for the sake of drama, or VR is simply not for you

So far I have not needed such myself, I just turn my gaming chair around most part

If you don’t like permadeath (which is understandable) then there’s an option to remove that (and if my sources are correct then there has always been) personally I enjoy the “Ironman” permadeath mode, because of the realism it offers, you get destroyed? You die, such is life, and unlike life (one can assume) you always end up with something that makes you a bit better for each play-trough: Experience
At the first playtrough I felt undeserving of all the praise the characters gave me, and literally won the first level by fleeing the scene, by the sixth playtrough I was like “Ah yes I have been chosen for a reason”
You also seem to have forgotten to mention the different dialogue options and the difference they make

As for the music I have not even heard it, because I just muted it and play music from Homeworld and Strike Suit Zero while playing immersive space games like this

So I could not agree less with your review, I mean look at you focusing on everything bad, where are the positives? You don’t even mention the story or the missions, how can creating your own mini levels possibly be better than the campaign? Did you even mention the ability to forge alliances and play as both humans and aliens?

Sorry, but either this game has gone from being a terrible monstrosity to the amazingly fun game it is today, or you must have had a terrible day back then, I mean sure, this game might not compare technically speaking to whatever deep tactical ubergraphical games you play on your Alienware computer

But as a basic VR game (not even PCVR) it’s wonderful, making the best out of it’s VR capability, making you grind hard for your rewards, and destroying you swiftly and permanently if you screw up

Pretty much like real life, helps me not only get immersed in the game, but also feel the dread of facing overwhelming forces, and the “Captain’s sense of pride” as your sole burning capital ship SOMEHOW made it out from the chaos with what was once your army now in shambles

Have not beaten it yet, I have simply had my butt kicked several times, but made surprisingly good progress for every restart

I just finished the game on Easy mode last night and if it weren’t for a last minute cloaking device I would’ve been picking stars out of my ass for the next several weeks,. But as it was, I eked out a victory! I find the game a lot of fun to play, and beautiful in its own way. It’s certainly a slower pace of entertainment but the battles can still get intense. If you are into space combat and watch any Star Trek series, you should pick this one up…
