Colombian video game developer Teravision has released a free expansion for its VR first-person tower defense game, Captain Toonhead vs the Punks from Outer Space. The expansion, titled “Survival Mode”, includes roguelike elements and is now available for Steam VR and Oculus Quest headsets.
The new mode introduces procedurally generated maps that change daily, along with unique waves and sectors, adding varying levels of challenge. It also introduces new enemy variants that weren’t present in the original campaign.
The game, Captain Toonhead vs Punks from Outer Space, is a VR first-person tower defense game where players navigate the map actively, upgrading their towers and combating enemies with an assortment of weapons. The game has been well-received by both the gaming press and influencers.
This free expansion introduces an “Endless Survival Mode”, offering an even more in-depth gaming experience. In this mode, players start each match with a basic weapon layout and gain points by performing actions, with combos and multipliers as incentives. The match concludes when all EnerCubes are lost, while victory grants access to a rest area for upgrades. The maps increase in complexity and scale as players progress. Based on their scores, players can also earn visual customization items.
Another new feature in the Survival Mode is the online leaderboard, allowing players to compare their scores globally or within their friend groups. As soon as players submit a score, their rank on the leaderboard is displayed.
The Survival Mode also furthers the storyline of the original game. Following the destruction of the WTF squad, Elliott Salazar, a cartoon-obsessed technician, teams up with Captain Toonhead to save Earth. Players control towers with unique abilities, like hot sauce beams, fireworks, snowball guns, electrified pizza rays, and piñata blitzes, to defeat enemies and protect the EnerCubes from the EarthRadicator-1000.
